Happy July, blog readers! You may have noticed that I had a lag in posts. Sorry for the delay, but Nick and I have been busy selling our home. We feel blessed that a nice young family now lives in our old house where we have so many good memories! However, moving is no joke!
Prior to our move out of our home and after relocating to Wilmington, I began reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. I have not done all the decluttering I hope to accomplish yet because we have 3 storage units! However, I am trying to modify the way I look at all the “stuff” in my life. You may have noticed that I have had fewer 5/5 fixes lately. I no longer aim for those. I’ve set my goal to keep only pieces that I love and think I will wear. I have by no means mastered this thinking, but I needed to start somewhere.
For Stitch Fix #31, I asked Sara for bright colors, a maxi, and a date night dress. She sent me a fun box of items to try and when it shipped, I peeked in the Stitch Fix app and felt really excited! I thought this was a box with 5/5 potential!
So, let’s see the goodies Sara sent this Fix!
Pixley Durham Bow Back Top $54
I love the eyelet fabric and the pretty bow on the back of this top. The fit is also nice. It is the perfect length and a flattering fit.
This top could not go to work because of the spaghetti straps and it would be uncomfortable under a blazer or cardigan because of the bow back detail. This piece is beautiful, but lacks versatility.
Also, I strictly believe that bras are categorized as “underwear” for a reason and should NEVER show! Sorry, bralette fans, I cringe every time I see one in public. Needless to say, this pretty little top, shows the back band of my bra, making it a definite RETURN!
Skies are Blue Emmeline Lace Overlay Top $58
I may be addicted to stripes, especially navy and white ones! When I cleaned out my closet a few months ago, I noticed this issue.
I also was excited about the navy in this top. When I moved a few months ago, I thought I had lost my White House Black Market navy trousers. Luckily, those turned up a few weeks ago, just in time to pair with this lovely top! KEPT!
Renee C Pamala Hi-lo Maxi Dress $74
I love maxi dresses for the summer and knew I’d love to have another one because it has been very hot and humid the past few weeks and maxi dresses are my secret for staying cool while still looking elegant. This maxi dress really has a beautiful silhouette and I love the high-low hemline.
I LOVE bright colors, and this maxi contained about every one I can think of, which was a tad overwhelming. If I’m going to wear something bright, I want the colors to compliment one another rather than contrast. I also was not a fan of the modern print on this dress. If this had been a different fabric and pattern, I would have been happy to keep this dress. RETURNED!
Octavia Quentin Graphic Clutch $38
This mint clutch was on my Pinterest board and I’m glad Sara let me give it a try. I love the pretty colors and the generous size. As a bonus, it came with a chain so you can carry it as a crossbody.
The reason I did not keep this came down to the fabric. This kind of looked like a rug and I could not shake that from my mind. I felt the price was a little high for this item judging by the quality. RETURNED!
Gentle Fawn Haeden Dress $78
When I peeked in the app and saw this dress was coming, I couldn’t wait to give it a try!
I LOVE the back detail and the subtle print on the fabric! The dress is fully lined, but does fit a little clingy, more like juniors sizing. I would have preferred a more flowy style.
Like most of the dresses/skirts that I received before it this summer, this one was also an inappropriate length. Please, Stitch Fix algorithm, don’t forget that tall girls have to bend over too and they can’t do it in these kinds of dresses! I’m happy Stitch Fix has added options for the petite girls, but keep these separated, algorithm. RETURNED!
Since I have been having poor luck with Stitch Fix dresses this summer, I decided to search for my own maxi during Amazon Prime day and look what I found!
This Betsey Johnson maxi was a great deal and a nice option for tall girls! I’m 5’8″ and this hits the ground for me. I included the link in case you are interested in this gorgeous dress! I added a Spartina tassel necklace, gladiator sandals, and Margaret Elizabeth earrings and this dress was ready to go out to dinner!
So, my potential 5/5 ended up being a 1/5 due to fit and quality issues. Sara did an excellent job nailing my style and I really enjoyed these items. Plus, I LOVE the lace top that I kept! I think this box was a success!
