This is my first time trying Elizabeth & Clarke, a subscription box for shirts. The premise of their business is to cut out retail and marketing costs and deliver high quality, basic shirts at a fraction of the price of boutiques and department stores. When you sign up, there are three enrollment options. You may choose 1 shirt for $30, 2 shirts for $50, or 3 shirts for $60. Each season, Elizabeth & Clarke releases 3 new shirts and subscribers may choose to receive a combination of these shirts and ones in the forever collection.
The shirts arrive quarterly and come packaged in a thin box sent through the postal service. Each shirt is individually packaged.
The Hutton Shirt
This soft, navy shirt can be worn casually or dressed up for work. It really is a wardrobe staple. I was impressed by the soft fabric and the flattering drape of this shirt, which is a little more fitted at the bottom than in the shoulders.
The Whitney Shirt
The Whitney shirt is made from very thick material and has a wider fit than the other items in my box. I like the pleat detail in back and the banded sleeves, which elevate this top above your common basic. Again, this shirt is perfect for the office and beyond.
The Liz Lemon Shirt
This is a shirt from the forever collection and it was my favorite item in the box! The material is comfortable and the fit is great! This piece will be perfect for layering year round.
When I first ordered this box, I was a little concerned about choosing the appropriate size. Instead of the traditional S, M, L sizing scheme, Elizabeth & Clarke sizes their shirts in even numbers ranging from 00 to 14. I chose the same size as my dress size and was not disappointed in the fit. I think this sizing allow for a more tailored look, which is very important for creating a polished, professional shirt.
Overall, I’m impressed that I was able to receive such high quality shirts for $20 each. I believe these shirts are nicer than items I could purchase for a similar price at an outlet or department store sale. I’m definitely sticking with this service and will give you an update when I receive my Winter 2015 box.
